Naim Unveils Mu-so Utopia: A 720W Wireless Music System with Dolby Atmos

Naim’s new flagship wireless music system combines Focal speaker technology, high-resolution audio playback, and immersive Dolby Atmos sound in a premium £4,499 package. Naim has introduced the Mu-so Utopia, a high-end wireless music system designed to bring powerful, room-filling sound and immersive audio into the home. Combining Naim’s audio engineering with acoustic technologies developed by Focal, the system delivers 720W of amplification and supports Dolby Atmos. Designed for rooms of up to 50 square metres, the Mu-so Utopia aims to offer a comprehensive listening experience without the need for a traditional multi-speaker setup. Focal-Inspired Acoustic Engineering At the heart of the Mu-so Utopia is a 15-driver configuration powered by a combination of Class D and Class A/B amplification. The speaker array includes four full-range drivers, a pair of M-shaped midrange drivers, and two 25mm PRISM tweeters derived from Focal’s Scala and Diva Utopia loudspeakers. According to Naim’s engineers, the use of Class A/B amplification helps deliver greater control at high frequencies. The combination of specialised drivers and dedicated amplification is intended to provide detailed reproduction, clear vocals, and powerful bass from a single enclosure. Dolby Atmos and Immersive Listening Modes Dolby Atmos support is one of the Mu-so Utopia’s key features, bringing spatial audio capabilities to the wireless system. Several listening modes are available, including Dolby Movie for cinematic playback and Sphere Music for a more immersive music experience. Sphere Music uses microphone beamforming technology to help create a wider, more enveloping soundstage. This allows the system to adapt its presentation for a more expansive listening experience without requiring separate surround speakers. Extensive Streaming and High-Resolution Audio Support The Mu-so Utopia offers broad connectivity for both streaming and locally stored music. Supported services include Tidal, Qobuz, and Spotify, while AirPlay 2, Google Cast, and Bluetooth 5.3 provide additional wireless playback options. For music stored on a home network, UPnP support enables playback from compatible local servers and devices. High-resolution audio capabilities extend to PCM files up to 32-bit/384kHz and DSD 128, making the system suitable for listeners with extensive digital music libraries. Premium Design and Connectivity The enclosure is constructed from anodised aluminium and finished with distinctive red detailing. Touch-sensitive controls sit on the top panel, alongside an illuminated volume dial that serves as a prominent visual feature. Physical connections include HDMI eARC for television audio, an optical digital input, an RCA subwoofer output, and Ethernet for wired network connectivity. Measuring approximately 40cm in length and weighing around 14kg, the Mu-so Utopia is a substantial piece of hardware rather than a compact tabletop speaker. Its size and weight reflect its positioning as a premium all-in-one audio system. Pricing and Availability The Naim Mu-so Utopia launches with a price of £4,499, placing it firmly in the luxury wireless audio category. With high-resolution playback, Dolby Atmos support, Focal-derived acoustic technology, and extensive streaming options, the system is designed for listeners seeking a premium home audio solution that combines convenience with serious sound performance.
